TOLEDO ROADRUNNERS CLUB ANNOUNCES CONTINUED SPONSOR COMMITMENTS FOR 2022 MERCY HEALTH GLASS CITY MARATHON

Toledo, Ohio — October 1, 2021: The Toledo Roadrunners Club is happy to announce several continued partnerships for the 2022 Mercy Health Glass City Marathon (GCM). Bon Secours/Mercy Health have again renewed a three-year commitment to the race. Owens Corning, Savage, Yark Subaru and PNC have additionally committed their support of the 45th annual running of this time-tested event. The University of Toledo will again host the event in 2022.

The Mercy Health Glass City Marathon is the fastest growing and largest springtime road runner race in Northwest Ohio. Through its relationship with Mercy Health, the event has seen dramatic popularity and repeat participation from individuals around the nation and world. Mercy Health has embraced this community event in many ways, including physician involvement with web podcasts, runner training programs and on site race day medical coverage. Mercy Health is the founding organization for the Kid’s Expo that focuses on engaging children in a healthy lifestyle early in life. Initiated in 2016, the Kid’s Expo included over 50 vendor participants in 2019 and continues to grow each year.

The Mercy Health Glass City Marathon continues to grow as a signature event for the region, acting as a qualifier for the illustrious Boston Marathon, as well as a popular race for first time marathoners. Nearly 20% of the 2021 marathon field was made up of people running their first marathon distance race. The 2021 event remains one of the top 5 largest in-person running events for the year. The 2022 marathon is again recognized as a Roadrunner Club of America Championship race. As a world class AbbottWMM Wanda Age Group World Ranking qualifying race, runners at GCM aged 40+ can earn age group ranking points and get invited to the AbbottWMM Wanda Age Group World Championships.

The Mercy Health Glass City Marathon is a family event offering multiple runs to fit every level of participant including the marathon, Owens Corning Half Marathon, YARK Subaru 5-Person Marathon Relay, Savage 5K and the Kid’s Marathon. Proceeds from the Mercy Health Glass City Marathon supports 14 local charities.

As a historically top 25 fastest course in the country with over 31% of finishers qualifying for the illustrious Boston Marathon, GCM has grown from one of the longest running marathons in the USA, to an annual favorite for a field that has grown near 10,000 runners and walkers from all corners of the globe who are looking for a competitive challenge in a hometown atmosphere, with premium perks and a memorable experience at an affordable price.
